CLIENT story:

Next Step is proud to partner with the Kent County Land Bank Authority.

This was a great opportunity for Next Step to engage in community development. With this partnership, Next Step was able to purchase, renovate and sell seven vacant homes from the Land Bank, allowing Next Step to provide work for employees, sustain organizational revenue and revive our neighborhoods.

The Land Bank purchased 737 Madison Avenue SE for $6,469, the amount due on its back taxes, and hired Next Step to renovate the house. Next Step repainted the exterior, installed new windows, repaired the porch, repainted the rooms, refinished the hardwood floors, updated the bathrooms and installed a new kitchen with stainless steel appliances. After the renovation, the house sold for $119,000.

David de Velder, Director of Real Estate Development at the Land Bank said, “You go in their houses and it blows you away because of Next Step’s extensiveness in rehab, the quality of work, the knowledge of the rehab.”
